Loan call "best ever"

Public response to the Taupo Borough Council's most recent loan issue has been the "best ever," according to the acting tqwn clerk, Mr R. F. Little. The $335,000 loan is mainly for electrical reticulation — and nearly $30,000 has been contributed by local organisations and individuals. Little more than $3000 was invested by Taupo people in the borough's last loan. "The current loan issue has received the best response we have ever had. It is a change to get such a good response," said Mr Little. A further $300,000 has still to be raised and the Mayor, Mr C. S. Currie, has called for public support in a 1

circular letter to electric power consumers in the area. He described the response so far as "tremendous" and said it proved "there is very little amiss with the spirit of our community." In his letter, Mr Currie said borough ratepayers were, in many cases, the same people as the electricity consumers, but the electric supply area also covered a great part of the Taupo county. "Notwithstanding the present restrictions on the use of electricity, the demand for this service continues to increase. New extensions can only be provided if loan finance can be raised," he said.
