Greater call made on services of Red Cross — president
A greater call had been made on the services of the Red Cross Society in the past year than ever before, the president of the Taupo branch, Mr G. Marlow, said in his annual report. The call on voluntary drivers had been particularly heavy following the introduction of the service to transport patients to and from the day care centre at Taupo hospital. The meals on wheels team had turned out in all sorts of weather to deliver up to 20 meals a day six days a week. Some 3-4000 meals had been delivered. "This has been possible by the wonderful response we have had for more voluntary drivers," he said. There had been 22 patients taken to Rotorua hospital, one to Hamilton, 60 to Taupo and 39 to the locai physiotherapist. The clothing department had been busy outfitting six families, supplying bedding and clothing through the Maori Welfare
department. Pensioners and the Prisoners Aid Society had also been catered for. Fourteen cases of clothing had been sent to the Auckland and Wellington city missions, four cases to the Mangakino Welfare group, and two boxes to Turangi. As well as the library and canteen service to the Taupo hospital, the beauty care team now visited twice weekly. Hairdressing had been added to this very much appreciated and worthwhile
service for hospital patients. "Before closing this report I would just like to say thank you to the Red Cross youth who have through their own efforts contributed nearly $700 for local and overseas relief and towards leadership training. A truly wonderful effort," said Mr Marlow. He expressed thanks to the members of the committee, Red Cross members and friends of the society for their most generous • support and willingness to pssist.
