Injuries reduced

Injuries to the lower extremities of front-seat occupants have been reduced by improvements in instrument panels of new domestic cars. This is reported in the SAE Journal, USA, following a study undertaken by Alan M. Nahum and others. The improvements have included the remoVing or flatr tening of objects and control knobs; the use of materials — primarily sheet metals — that have excellent energy-absorp-tion properties and the relocating or removing of the underlying structure that added rigidity to the panel.
