Councillors seek more

Taupo Borough Councillors joined the wage spiral last night and plumped for a 40 per cent increase in their own remuneration. Previously councillors received $3 payment per

meeting, but under the terms of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 1970, provision was made for an increase in the remuneration to councillors when it was passed in Parliament on November 27. With their increase councillors will now receive $5 for each meeting they attend, with an annual limit of $250. The previous limit was $156.
