Tender accepted

Only one tender was received by the Taupo Borough Council for the reconstruction of 20 chains of Spa Road between Centennial Drive and the Spa Hotel, the

council was told at its meeting last night. The tender for $19,248.86 submitted by L.M. Saunders and Co. Ltd., was accepted although it was approximately 50 per cent more than the borough engineer s estimate for the cost of the work. Council is also to instal a temporary 60 inch diameter culvert alongside the twin 36 inch culverts under Aerodrome Road at an estimated cost of $2500. The temporary culvert is to be wide enough to provide single lane access to the Spa Hotel from Aerodrome Road. The engineering department is to also proceed with the investigation and design of a single lane bridge with the object of eliminating the culverts entirely. Engineering consultants are also to be engaged by the council to report on the anticipated flood discharges from the Otumuheke watershed and in particular, the flood of December 17, 1969.
