TOOK KEG TO ANOTHER PARTY
A guest at a wedding reception in Taupo last month took an 18 gallon keg of beer with him when he left, the Taupo Magistrate's Court was told on Tuesday. Appearing before Mr M. C. Astley, S.M., on a charge of theft of the keg and its contents was Gregory Clarke, 21, millhand, Taupo. Senior Sergeant R. Moncur said Clarke was a guest at a wedding reception at the complainant s residence on December 13. The keg was left under a cover on the back lawn. Late in the evening Clarke took the keg to another party where the contents were consumed. When asked by Mr Astley for his reason in taking the keg, Clarke said he was a bit drunk at the time and did not realise what he was doing. "Do you play any sport?' asked Mr Astley. "No sir," replied Clarke. "You should become a weightlifter by the look of things, ' said Mr Astley.
Clarke was fined $30, court costs $5, and ordered to make restitution of $28.08.
