FLIGHT TEST OF CONCORDE
The initial flight test programme of the Anglo-French Concorde supersonic jetliner should be completed this month. The Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) said on January 14 that the two prototypes were within 12 hours of completing 400 hours' test flying. All but seven of the planned 200 flights in the first phase have now been made. These tests will enable the British Aircraft Corporation (BAC) and Aerospatiale of France to make a preliminary assessment of the airliner s performance in passenger service. It will be on the basis of these figures that world airlines will decide whether to turn their present options into firm orders.
