BEATEN...

A green Hairy Dog fly on a quick sinking 12 thread line attracted a 91b lOoz jack trout and produced a new leader in the weight section of the Leisure Time fishing contest at Wednesday morning's weigh-in at the Taupo Information Centre. Ihe successful angler was Mr D. L. Studholme of Tawhero R.D., Eketahuna, who unseated Mr B. J. Perry, of Havelock North, from top slot Mr Perry recorded a 91b 5oz fish on December 26, the first day of the contest, and was the unrivalled leader until Mr Studholme captured his fish. But late yesterday afternoon a Hawke's Bay boy, holidaying in Taupo, claimed the lead with a 1 01b rainbow trout taken while trolling in the White Cliffs area. Michael Timmer, 13, of Glencoe Station, near Hastings, hooked the trout with a yellow and black cobra spinner. Mr Studholme made his catch in the Western Bays area at 10.30 p.m. on luesday. It took about 15 minutes to land and weighed 10%lb immediately after removal frorh the water. Mr Studholme had no idea of the trout s size until it was close inshore and his brother-in-law shone a torch on it. But despite its weight the brown did not enter into calculations for the longest fish. It was 27% in overall but superbly conditioned.
