IMPROVING ACCESS TO, FROM EAST

Access to Taupo from the east will be greatly improved when the last six and a half miles of unsealed, hilly road on the Taupo-Napier highway is replaced with a new highspeed section due for opening within a few months. The present road can be seen in the hill on the left of the photograph, while the new section is on the right. Engineers have encountered difficulties with particularly tough rock and this has delayed progress.
