It's all in the name

There is an old saying, that unless you get the best of whisky it will get the best of you. When the BBC reporter Ian Gillham interviewed Professor David Daiches on the publication of his book "Scotch Whisky", he asked his advice on how to drink 'the water of life'. Like a good Scot, the Professor gave a careful reply. "It depends what whisky you are drinking' , he said. "A blended whisky like any of the advertised brands can be drunk with soda. ' For warm countries, I should say a blended whisky and soda, with ice if you like it cold, is a perfectly good drink. "But if you are drinking an unblended malt whisky, for the connoisseur who wants to savour the individual quality of the product of each distillery, then either neat or with a little plain water."
