REGULAR VISITOR

Havelock North, Hawke's Bay, angler Mr B. J. Perry is setting the pace in the Leisure Time fishing contest which started on Saturday and runs for a month.

On the first day he weighed in a 9 lb 5 oz rainbow hen trout 26 7 /8th in long. On the second day his catch, an 8 lb 9 oz brown jack 25Viin long, was the best recorded. And on Monday he arrived at the weighing station adjacent to the Information Centre. with an 8 lb 2 oz fish which was only 1 oz lighter than the day's best, caught and recorded by Terry Burton, a Levin schoolboy. Mr Perry, a regular visitor to Taupo and an expert

angler, has landed his trout in the vicinity of the Waitahanui river. His Monday catch carried a hard Iuck story. Mr Perry said he had another big trout, one he considered larger than the one he weighed in, on the hook but it escaped after a good fight. Strong winds and rough water over the weekend obviously kept many contenders from their favourite fishing spots, but with a change in conditions Mr Perry 's 9 lb 5 oz contest leader could be challcnged. Taupo angler Mr E. R. King led the way yesterday with a fish which tipped the scales at 7 lb 8 oz. It was 27//2 inches long. • Picture shows Mr Perry with the 8 lb 2 oz trout he landed on Monday.
