TROUT RESPOND TO TROLLING

Deep trolling is still producing satisfactory catches at Lake Taupo and the stream mouths are fishing well. At Lake Whakamaru success is coming from trolling in the area from the Youth Camp to Dunn s Creek. The other hydro lakes are fairly hard for fishermen, al though the odd fish is being caught at Twin Lakes, Lake Maraetai, in the early mornings and the evenings. At Lake Waikaremoana trolling is yielding fairly satisfactory results and fly fishing at Lake Waikare-iti is producing some good fish. At Lake Rotorua fishing in the late evenings is producing reasonable results Lakes Rotoehu and Rotoiti are difficult at present but average results are being obtained at Lake Rotoma in the mornings, with a mother of pearl. At Lake Tarawera the fishing is generally hard, but some measure of success has come from the use of weighted lines. At Murupara the Wheao and Whirinaki Rivers are clear and suitable for fishing. The lower Rangitaiki River and Te Mahoe Lake are still discoloured and clearing slowly. The Upper Rangitaiki River is slightly discoloured. At Lake Rotomahana the fishing is hard. It is also fairly hard at Lake Rerewhakaaitu although a few good fish have been taken on the fly at sunset. The Bay of Plenty rivers are in good order for fishing, and the Waimana and lower

Waioeka are in fact fishing quite well. In the Gisborne area the rivers are low and clear, and thb fishing prospects generally good. This is especially so of the Motu River with a dry fly. The Tiniroto Lakes are still hard.
