rol Methods He said fish were guided away from danger spots such as the tunnel intake to the Tokaanu powerhouse or the tailrace by a series of electrified rods or similar * equipment. It would not keep brown and rainbow trout separate. The greatest problem was^ the control of small fish. Electrical control would be expensive, he said, but much * of the cost was in research. The Americans were spending millions of pounds on research and were making * all their information available. Trout fishermen in parts* of the United States were using barbless hooks and throwing back every fish^ they caught, Mr Burstall added. "The emphasis there now is on 'fishing for. fun.' "In the eastern states there is such a tremendous strain on the lake and river ^ fishing resources.this has to be done." In some parts this was law, for example Pennsyl- * vania, he said. PUBLIC OPINION - PARKING Sir, — On the front page of your issue on Thursday, September 2, you published an article relating to ear parking in Taupo which was interesting, although some- * what misleading. You state that Taupo businessmen seem very much " against parking meters be-^ ing installed, as revealed in a recent survey of shops and businessmen. May I suggest that this* was a very thin survey, as it would appear from your article that only four busi-^ ness people were interviewed, or as an alternative that oJthers were interviewed, but that their opirh* ions you failed to divulge. - Some form of control of parking is certainly necessary to enable prospectiv^ customers to visit the shops at which they desire to make their purchases. Should parking meters not be desired then give us time control of say 30 minutes strictly enforced. I am of the opinion that the greater advantage both to customers and businessmen alike, would be for the said businessmen, their staffs and those who occupy* offices, to park. their cars at the rear of the premises , they occupy as they are definitely the cause of the parking jams in the busi-^ ness area. * ~ Businessmen, wake up, you are your own enemies. — Yours, etc., A.
