SECONDARY EGRESS FOR
BUILDINGS
Suggestion that secondary egress be provided from multi-storied buildings in Taupo came from the borough health inspeetor, Mr D. J. Balcraig, at the last meeting of the Taupo Borough Council. He said that unless this is done, occupants of upper floors will be faced with carting refuse containers along the main streets in order to place them in the service lanes for collection. Mr Bulcraig said in a double-storied structure, steps could be provided from the rear entrance to ground level. "In buildings over two stories, access to the rear
through business premises on the lower storey without having to pass through the business premises on the lower floor is desirable," he said. Cr I. T. Logan commented that secondary egress was important from the firefighting aspect. The borough engineer, Mr W. K. Kiddle said the secondary egress was not compulsory in small buildings.
