GREAT PROMISE SHOWN BY BASKETBALL TEAMS
Beatles proved too strong for Tauhara II. when they were beaten 61 — 33 in last week's Taupo Indoor Basketball Association games. Playing for Beatles, B. Morehu gained 30 points and A. Davies gained 26 points. On the loser's side, R. Braddock was the top scorer with 19 points. The Checkers-Lavenders game was a close contest with both teams evenly matched. Right up to the last few minutes it was a game where both teams scored goal for goal and only in those last minutes did Checkers gain the advantage. For Checkers P. Elwin with 16 points top-scored and for Lavenders E. Anderson played one of her best games of the season. The games this season have been full of surprises and the one between Hillbillies and Demons was no exception.
Hillbillies seem to be going from strength to strength and their 18-point defeat of highly-rated Demons was one of the major surprises of the season. Tauhara (w) ran all over Eagles in the second half of their game to gain a 27-point win. Tauhara I. with every player scoring points were too strong a combination for Bears. The first game on Thursday saw Comets overwhelm Jesters, mainly brought about by the scoring of C. Draper. For Jesters J. Phillips and N. Rush played well. College beat Huka by 18 points and all their players scored points — a feature of basketball in Taupo. H. Tamepo (17 points), J. Waiwai (16 points) and R. O'Brien (12 points) were too strong a scoring combination for Aratiatia against All Stars. For All Stars, R. Darlington with 20 points top-scored.
