Peace Cup Side
Taupo's first-ever ehalleiige for the Peace Cup takes place at Putaruru on Saturday when the local side meets South Waikato in a clash for the premier Rugby cup of the district. Taupo's chances of winning this match are, on form, only slight, but this would not be the first timo the team has risen to the occasion. A fair example of this was the first major representative game of the season when Taupo beat Galatea for the Heketia Cup. Later in the season, the team won the Maniapoto Cup from Tongariro. South Waikato have held the Peace Cup for three seasons and are fielding a big, experienced team.
Taupo's team is well balanced between youth and experience and has a med-ium-weight, fast pack. The backs are sound on attack, especially when led by the capable captain, G. Koopu. The team is quick with the loose ball and with the necessary spirit, could well pull this game off. The team is: P. Harrison, or B. Rata; P. Hobdell, or L. Balmforth, T. Ruru, T. Albert; C. Williams, . L. Tamepo; K. Darlington; A. Walker; G. Blake, G. Koopu, C. Williams, B. Albert; J. H. Wall, K. Draper, M. Hurae. Reserves: N. Rickit; C. Wall, J. Tawera, D. Rameka. The bus leaves the Hawke's Bay Motor Co. office at 11.30 a.m.
