26 Traffic Offence Notices On Compulsory Stop
Forty-three applicants were tested for drivers' licences hy the Taupo borough traffic officer in July. Of this number 12 were new tests, 17 were extensions to existing licences, 12 were over 70 applicants and two were written tests only. Four of the number failed. Fifty - three road users were reported and 14 prosecutions were conducted. Three accidents were reported, including one fatality at the intersection of AC Baths and Tauhara Roads. i
Reporting to the meeting of the council, Traffic Officer A. M. Campbell said since the erection of stop signs at Kaimanawa and Heu Heu Streets intersection constant checks were kept. He said 26 persons were issued traffic offence notices for failing to stop at the stop sign. He added that further concentrated checks would be carried out at the intersection in an endeavour to reduce the accident rate, which he said hae been too high in the past.
