NO FINALITY YET ON LAND FOR BOTANICAL GARDENS

The Commissioner of Crown Lands in Hamilton, Mr F. S. Beachman, has notified Taupo Borough Council that no finality has yet been reached in reserving land for a hotanical gardens and appointing a trust to manage and control them. The point of concern was the question of payment for the land, Mr Beachman said. When the position regarding Crown contributions in the borough and Taupo county was clarified, he expected a decision to be made. A plan was being finished which would show the area of Crown lands that have been subdivided and the reserves provided by the Crown. This would be used as a basis of negotiations with the council to reach agreement as to what the Crown's

responsibility was regarding the provision of reserves in the borough, Mr Beachman said.
