1ZA SUPPORTED Sir, — I think Taupo's radio station, 1ZA, is an asset to the district and residents should be pleased that one has been provided. The Taupo topics, .news, friendly talks to the children and the "plugging of local shopkeepers' wares" are just what we want. I can't see j why some of your correspondents should be so anti1ZA. The... main National programmes can still be brought in by choosing other wave-lengths. Perhaps "Man In The j Street" is not aware that .j plans for a 25 - bed hospital are already on the drawing board, and it will be built as soon as possible. In any case, I don't see the need to make political capital out of 1ZA. There is nothing constructive in that sort of comment. What I should like to: hear, and many think as I do, are more records with: a higher musical appeal than rnost of those we have heard so far. Unless there are some better records put on the air, there is a possibility of the brains of children and adults alike degenerating into a seething mass of twanging guitar strings and inane gibberish. Let's hear some tuneful music from proper musical instruments and vocalists please. "ANTI TWANG, CRASH, BANG AND DRIVELT.

RATING POLL Sir — / » Concerning the coming county rating poll. Yes the winds of change are blowi ing across the lake and very rapidly at that. The position i appears another. screw of the finance wheel again but if the ratepayers are alert, the halt can be made now! Public awareness is still needed in these times with local district ' development works under way everywhere. By guarding your democratic vote, the thin edge of the wedge can be prevented from becoming of ocuntry-wide proportions — as suggested on the basis of the proposed rating of the Taupo county. . — Yours, etc., GONE WITH THE WIND!
