They Would Like To Nail Down The Culprit
Taupo motorists had • punctures galore during two days of last week. Apparently somebody dropped a case of brand new three-inch nails on Rifle Range Road between Duncan Street and Pihanga Street on Wednesday. Since then, garages and service stations have had a busy time repairing the damage. Some motorists had punctures in two tyres, others had two punctures in one tyre. One garage dealt with 17 punctures on Wednesday afternoon and 12 on Thursday. Four other garages had up to eight motorists with punctures. They had all been caused by the shiny new nails.
As soon as the Taupo Borough Council was notified, the borough engineer, Mr W. K. Kiddle, sent one of his staff out to clear the road, which was completed before 5 p.m. on Wednesday. But motorists were still coming in with punctures on Friday. They would like to know who dropped them.
