Families To The Fore In Weekend Golf At Taupo
It was family weekend at the Taupo Golf Club, with a father and son combiriation winning Saturday's competition and a husband and wife team being successful in a stableford event completed on Sunday. Saturday's event was a
South African four-ball, won by T. and B. Halverson with a nett score of 275. The runners-up were G. F. Fearn and Pat Watson, 278. Scores were obtained by multiplying the nett score of partners at each hole and addidng the individual hole totals. A score of 296 points was equivalent to both partners playing to handicap figures. On Sunday, the Hawke's Bay Trophy was ended with the playing of the final 18 holes. Barron and Mrs Dawson capitalised on their six-point lead over the first 18 holes to total 149 stableford points. To their first round of 82 points they added 67 points on Sunday. E. Smith and Mrs Baker finished in second place with 142 points. Prizes were awarded for the best score over each of the individual rounds. K. Rameka and Mrs C. Painter (76) won the first round and
R. Wilson and Mrs Crerar (79) were successful in the second round. Barron and Mrs Dawson were not eligible under the one player-one trophy rule. Sunday's stableford competitions resulted: Men, D. Anderson 41, E. Smith 39; ladies, Miss J. Branson 38, on count-back from Mrs K. Garlick 38. Twos were carded on Sunday by D. Anderson and C. j B. Lowes. :
