Largest Group For Some Time At Taupo Car Club Gymkhana

The Taupo Car Club's gymkhana, held at Rangitaiki on Sunday, resulted in a win for Brian Gardner driving a Mini. Second was Bill Prince in an Austin Healey Sprite and third was Grahame Boot driving a Volkswagen Kar-mann-Ghia. Twenty-eight competitors made this the largest turnout the club has had for some time for a gymkhana event, and this number included several newer members. The ground was extremely slippery for the six tests that were conducted, but the conditions did not deter the competitors who returned some excellent times. This event was the first of several that will be held by the club to select a team to represent Taupo at the forthcoming inter-club gymkhana event to be held in Taupo in September. This weekend the annual conference of the Association of New Zealand Car Clubs will be held in Wellington. Mr G. Boot and Mr A. Munson will be attending this conference in an attempt to have Gold Star status awarded to the interclub event. If this is successful it will mean that the event will become one of the
