GOLF CLUB FORMS SHORT COURSE FOR JUNIORS
A Taupo Junior Golf Club has been forined with an initial membership of 19. The club will play on a short course of six holes now being developed at the rear of the existing links. It is hoped that the new course will be in use during the coming school holidays, which begin next week. The ages of the junior members range from nine to 17 years and, for some weeks, they have received regular Saturday morning instruction from the club professional, Mr Aubrey H. Dyke. Several outstanding golfers have been developed from the junior ranks in Taupo, and it is hoped that the latest move will give further impetus to young players. Junior committee members of the new club are:
Captain, R. Philpott; committee, D. Arnott, M. Bruce, W. Sharrock; secretary, W. Brown. Senior players, who will act in an advisory capacity are: President, Mr V. Wilson; vice-presidents, Mr J. Tonge and Mrs H. Philpott; adviser, Mr Dyke. Help from senior members of the club in donations, particularly of trophies, would be appreciated.
