Tongariro Win At Tokaanu
TURANGI. (OC) In a fast, exciting game, Tongariro won the champion of champions play-off of the Tongariro Rugby Sub-Union when it beat Hautu 11 — 6 at Tokaanu on Saturday. It was a hard-fought game throughout with both sides being responsible for many dropped passes. The result was a triumph for the cover defence of the Tongariro side. For the winners, C. Poole, E. Shepherd, H. Maniapoto and E. Maniapoto were outstanding in the forwards, with B. Downes, E. Warawema and P. Moke showing penetration among the backs. Simon, Mathews and Deveraux were the pick of the Hautu pack with the whole of the three-quarter line playing a steady game. Scorers: — Tongariro: E. Shepherd, try; E. Warawena, two conversions. Hautu: Eawards, penalty; Paparoa, try.
