Cold Conditions For Collectors
Snow and freezing winds on Saturday did not prevent members of Taupo Lions Club from collecting more than £480 for the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind. The Braille Week collection in Taupo must have been made under as adverse conditions as any in the country, and the efforts of members were appreciated by the chairman for the Auckland regional Braille Week committee, Mr J. J. Craig. In a telegram sent by him for publication in the Taupo Times, Mr Craig said, "Please allow me, through the columns of your newspaper, to record our grateful thanks for the very generous response in your community to the annual Braille Week appeal and warm appreciation of the organisers and collectors in such wintry conditions." By last night there was still money to come. Any amounts outstanding may be left at the Australia and New Zealand Bank.
