AIRSTRIP FOR TURANGI SHOULD BE PUBLIC ONE
TURANGI (OG) The question of an airstrip at Turangi was debated by the Turangi Liaison Committee last night. Rotorua Aero Club wrote to the committee pointing out that it had negotiated a lease of land within two miles of Turangi and that it expected to have the field ready for fiying shortly. Dr H. R. Gibson objected to the club having a private strip and said that the area should be used for a public field. The chairman, Mr J. A. Asher, said he felt the public generally should be considered. He opposed the idea of giving the club proprietary rights. The committee decided to approach the Department of Civil Aviation with the question of a Government supported airfield at Turangi.
