Social Event Of The Year
One of the social events of the year was held in Tanpo on Saturday when the Taupo hranch of the New Zealand National Party held its annnal ball. More than 250 people were present to watch the eight debutantes presented by their fathers to Mrs Rona Stevenson, M.P. for Taupo. Mrs Stevenson wore a gold sari gown, embroidered with gold accessories. Considerable time and effort had been put into
decorating the hall for the event. This was the work of Mesdames D. Young, W. C. Cuming and junior members of the party, ' The debutantes were: — Miss Christine Petersen, presented by her father, Mr P. Petersen, wore white twinkle sheer nylon over a satin semi-Empire line gown with a lace bodice featuring Dior pleats at the back. Her escort was Mr Robert Jacobi. Miss Cally Harris, presented by her father, Mr D. Harris, wore a white skimmer satin gown with muted pink lace with beaded bodice, Empire line with floating back panel edged with beading. Her escort was Mr Ray Davies. Miss Noeline Service, presented by her father, Mr W. Service, wore a white crystalline embossed satin gown, self embroidered, with flowering tulle back panels. Her escort was Mr Ken Hutt. Miss Trevena Groves, presented by her father, Mr P. Groves, wore white guipure lace over satin Empire line gown with lace sleeves. Her escort was Mr Peter Gilbert. Miss Marguerite Mika, presented by her father, Mr G. Mika, wore a white satin gown, short sleeves and a hemline embroidered with silver. Her escort was Mr Peter Hobdell. Miss Carole Logan, presented by her father, Mr D. Logan, wore a white riche' satin Empire line gown, embroidered bodice with drop pearls, Dior pleats at the back. Her escort was Mr Conn Byloox. Miss Gaye Birch, presented by her father, Mr W. Birch, wore white guipure lace over an Empire line satin gown with embroidered loose crystalline panels. Her escort was Mr Martin Tonge. Miss Angela Fooks, presented by her father, Mr A. C. L. Fooks, wore a twilight satin gown with scalloped lace hyaway back panel falling from two Dior roses. Her escort was Mr David Wigley.
