PERMANENT FIRE BRIGADE

AT TURANGI

TURANGI.

(OC)

The fast-growing township of Turangi now has a permanent fire brigade, staffed by Fire Chief Lloyd Dennis and his assistant Mr R. Young. A 24-hour service is maintained and the fire engine, a

recent importation from Mangakino, is ready to go at a moment's notice in the well-known tradition of the brigade. Mr Dennis, reeently arrived from Mangakino, has been doing similar work there and has had considerable experience in the fighting of fires all along the Waikato River on hydro developments. Local Turangi and Tokaanu inen who have acted as volunteer firemen in the past will be given the opportunity to join up with the permanent force. The fire engine is at pres- | ent housed in a temporary garage erected by the Ministry of Works and accommodation for the key men of the service has been provided adjacent to the garage. As the number of completed houses in the township increases, it is pleasing to note that this essential service has been installed and in Operation in such a short time.
