Many Helping Out On
Hydro Scheme
Turangi
(OC)
The power scheme, now well under way at Turangi, is being helped along by many people who are not connected at all times with the scheme. Numbered among them are engineers who, although qualified, have taken up some other form of employment since they graduated. Much of the precise surveying at present being carried out in the Moawhango area, some five miles north of Waiouru, is being done as spare-time work by Mr Syd. Jarvis, a mining engineer now turned teacher at Tokaanu High School, ably assisted by some of his fourth and fifth form pupils as chainmen and
bookers, or by MoW engineering cadets using their spare weekends to learn more about the "engineering game." They include Donald MacGregor and Richard Tyers as chainmen, both still at school during the week and Robert Grave, an engineering cadet who has been booking levels. Mr Jarvis is taking levels in the area where eventually there will be two massive reservoirs contributing their gallonage to the Upper Waikato Power Scheme. The boys are not only making money toward whatever goal they have in mind, but are also contributing in some way toward this wonderful scheme - which is altering the face of the centre of the North Island.
