Newcomer Highlights Bogey

Competition

A newcomer to golf, J. McDougall, provided the highlight at the Taupo Golf Club on Saturday afternoon when he returned a card of 7 up in a B grade bogey competition. However, he was ruled ineligible for the competition when it was found that he had previously returned only four cards for handicapping purposes. A minimum of five cards is necessary. McDougall played on Saturday from a 36 handicap, but immediately after his excellent round he was given a handicap of 24. The competition was awarded to J. Sabota, 3 up, on a count-back with D. Pattenden. T. Clapperton was in excellent touch to win the A grade bogey event with a card of three up. The A grade stableford was won by A. McKinnon, 39 points, on a count-back with R. T. Ward. McDougall received a consolation prize by taking the B grade stableford with 44 points. Sabota was run-ner-up with 40 points. ;

A two's competition at the third hole resulted in prizes for C. M. Breeds, E. M. Smith and R. B. Simons. Sunday's stableford competitions resulted: Men, R. Brooker 40, M. B. Orr 37; ladies, Mrs T. George 30. There was a two's competition at the fourth hole, but no player was able to gain the necessary birdie.
