Lands And Survey Maps Proposed Reserve Aeras2
The I^mds and Survey Department, Rotorua^ were well up with work in connection with Lake Taupo's reserves proposals, the county ehgineer, Mr G. B. Barton reported to the Taupo County Gounci! on Tuesday. Maps were being prepared which show topographical features of the surrounding terrain and the slope of contours. A series of aerial photographs, both vertical and oblique, were also being produced. Some of the oblique photographs were inspected by councillors on Tuesday. It is likely that a selec-tion will be available for the I^ooklet being produced to outline the scheme. Mr Burton said the joh the Department was doing would give an excelient pictnre of the proposale. These were submitted to Government by the Taupo County Couneil in an effort to ensure that adequate reserves are established on a national basis to preeerve
, the attraction of Lake Taupo and its surrounds to posterity. After preliminary investigation by the Cabinet com- 1 mittee, sub-committees were set up to make a close study of the seheme's various aspects and they were asked by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Seath, to aceord urgency to their work. The work now being done by the department would be an important factor in the clear presentation of the final scheme to go before Government, Mr Burton said.
