Roading Work Arranged
In County
The Ministry of AVorks resident engineer, Rotorna, has advised Taup^) County Council that the department is arranging for the construetion of a length of West Taupo Road from Whangamata junction t/> the Marotiri junction. Tenders for the work will be called soon. It was explained too, that the National Roads Board had decided that any future eonstxmction work on Tihoi Road undertaken by the council between Marotiri junction and Whakamaru would be financed from the subsidised highways sector of the estimates. The sum of £10,150 grant in the county estimates had, therefore, been deleted and £12,600 free money provided instead from the highways sector of the board's funds. This meant that the
council's share of £1400 and subsidy of £1050 on Tihoi Road were now available for other works. The council resolved to express its appreciation to the board and to the Member of Parilament for the district, Mrs R. M. Stevenson, who had advocated the council's case. The superintendent of land development notified the council of development roading proposed in the county for the current year. When the roads are constructed to required standards they will be accepted by the council for dedication, control and malntenance. The roads are: Pokuru, in the Whakamaru area, 39.4 chains and 220 chains; View Road, between Rotokawa and Aratiatia, 200 chains; Whangamata Road, 340 chains. The above roads will be required to be constructed to through standards. Internal standards will be required for the following: Otaki Road, in the Whangamata Road area, 310 chains; Whakapapa Road, off Tutukau Road, 260 chains; Old Mill Road, 40 chains; Ora-kei-Korako Road, 245 chains.
