LONGER?
New Zealand has oiie of the highest life expect- | ancy rates in the world, | the general manager of | Combined Insurance C0111pany of A merita, Mr Robert M. Harvey said in Auckland recently. He said life expectancy in New Zealand was continuing to rise. Mr Harvey said Combined Insurance had recently completed a population study based on latest Dominion and United Nations statis-' tics. "The New Zealand death rate is only 8.8 per thousand per year," said Mr Harvey. "This compares with 8.7 for Australia, 11.9 for the United Kingdom, 10.1 for Sweden, 9.5 for the United
| States, 19.2 for India and ! 20.6 for Brazil. "Life expectancy goes up continuously. A male European New Zealander born in 1921 had a statistical life expectancy at birth of about 63 years.
The average baby boy born today will live for 69 yeafs or longer. A female European New Zealander born in 1921 had a statistical life expectancy of about 65 years. A baby girl born today has a life expectancy of about 74 years. "It must be emphasised that the above figures are statistical averages only. A person born in 1921 who is living today has very niuch the same life j expectancy as a child born today."
