WAITAHANUI
Sir, — I am surprised after 40 years of visiting and living in Taupo that I find the most attractive place here more or less exactly as it was when I first arrived. I am speaking of that treasure, Waitahanui. Don't you think, sir, it is strange that those responsible for the progress of Taupo should for so long have overlooked this gem — a fisherman's paradise. Where in the world do we have such a spot? But the neglect — no lodge, a most important place I think — all we have here are three motels, and mother and family have to sit cased up in the car while dad fishes. Where are the picnic seats and tables? Where is the parking area, the street lights? Just why should this perfect tourist attraction be overlooked. We are now looking forward to the new airport bringing in its hundreds of tourists and weekend fishing parties. Where do those people find accommodation at Waitahanui? Can we not put this place on the Taupo map — or do we hold back another 40 years. — Yours, etc.,
AONARIUS.
