WAIRAKEI SOCCER

Wairakei Soccer Club was beaten 1 — nil by a team from Kahukura, at Wairakei on Sunday. Kahukura, one of the~top teams in the Bay of Plenty, were winners of the elimination round of the Chatham Cup for the Bay of Plenty. The team was taken aback by the vigorous and determined efforts of the Wairakei team. Wairakei was unfortunate to be two men short from the start of the game and it was within the first 15 minutes that the visitors scored when I. Baker placed a nice shot in the net. Wairakei did not let Kahukura take the upper hand for the rest of the game. Kahukura did miss a few shots at goal, but they did not receive as much of the ball on the Wairakei side. For Wairakei, the defence played really well and A. Mason played deputy goalkeeper in place of G. Boot. For Kahukura, W. Jackson and N. Fouids played well. The referee was Mr H. Bijnen.
