OPERATIC SOCIETY FORMED
More than 40 people at- J tended the public meeting ^ to form a Taupo Operatic 1 Society, on Thursday. Constructive ideas from ^ .the meeting showed that a T number of the members t were acquainted with oper- r atic work. By this meeting it was . proved that there is a ready . pool of singers in the town which would be sufficient to form a core cast for the first ] production. i There were people present ^ who had had experience with back-stage work and ; who were prepared to join the group. j ' Guest speaker at the meeting was Mr C. .White, who has had 25 years' experience with the Napier Operatic Society. Mr White t.hought Taupo could support an op- ! eratic society and he was ; ahle to give ideas for its | formation. Several operas were sug--gested, but decision on a production will be made at the next meeting. There is a possibility that the first production will be "Oklahoma" but this will depend on whether the committee can obtain the props from another centre. It is probable that the rest of this year will be spent in preparing a production, to be presented next season. The following officers were elected at the meeting: Patron, The Mayor, Mr J. E. . Story; president, Dr G. West; secretary, Mrs P. Radford; treasurer, Mr E. Pardon; committee, Mesdames M. Buckleigh, P. Vernon, M. | Potter, A. Austin, B. Mulvay, j A. Austin, Messrs P. Smith, ' W. Rameka, N. Karaitiana, ! T. Kapua, R. Peatfteld.
