"STRONG RESISTANCE" TO REGIONAL COUNCIL BY WAITOMO POWER BOARD
Any suggestion that the North-West Taupo electricity reticulation distribution now undertaken by the Waitomo Power Board be handed over to the projected Taupo Regional Rouncil would be strongly resisted, commented the ehairman of the Waitomo Lower
Board, Mr F. W. G. Johnson, at the ineeting of the board last week. Taupo's borough and j county councils have, in j principle, approved a reg- j ional council for the Taupo ] area. The electricity for j the region around Taupo is j supplied by the Taupo Bor- j ough Council, utilising its I own hydro plant, and the j western portion of the Taupo County is reticulated by the Waitomo Power Board, which took over from the Ministry of Works some years ago the Mangakino reticulation, and has since ex-
tended its hnes over virtually all the farming areas of the western portion of the county. The north Taupo area currently accounts for ahout a sixth of the power usage of the Waitomo Board, and feeders from the supply point at Maraetai provide power for several districts outside the Taupo County area.
