Turangi's "First Family" Moves Into Their Home

Facing a battery of newspaper and televisi/on camerons, the first family shifted into the Ministry of Works honsing area at Turangi on Monday. They are Mr and Mrs W. j S. Englebretsen, with their children, Karl (seven), Keren (four), and Shane (rising two). Mr Englebretsen is a bore driller and he has been with MoW for five years. They moved in from Atiamuri. At the Tongariro project, he is employed on drilling investigation work in the National Park area. Mrs Englebretsen said the family had been wellhoused previously and she was very pleased with the one allotted to them at Turangi. Mrs R. M. Steventon, M.P. for Taupo, welcomed the family to Turangi and handed over to Mrs Englebretsen a large wooden key 011 which was painted "Turangi, No. 1," to mark the occasion. Two other families are moving in during the week. Each house will have three shrubs for the front gardens and three fruit trees for the back. The gardens have been levelled and paths laid. The senior MoW engineer at Turangi, Mr J. Bennion, said ■ the housing had slipped behind schedule due to bad -weather and initial teething troubles. This was being overcome, however, and he expected that there would be progressive occupation of the houses from now on. Twenty per cent. of the sections would be made available to other Government departments; for peojde engaged in commercial business in the town and for ciontractors' employees. No special areas have been reserved for senior officers' houses. They have been included in groups, the more attractive being sited to the north of the

residential areas in order to meet the anticipated demand for houses as near Lake Taupo as possible when the project is completed.
