600 HOUSES EXPECTED BY APRIL

A total of 600 houses were expected to be in use in Turangi by April next year, Mr J. Bennion, a senior officer of the Ministry of Works on the Tongariro power development told the Turangi Liaison Committee last night. These would follow the 700 sections expected to be

developed by mid-October. A fifth contract for site development would shortly be let out to tender and, meanwhile, services — : water, sewage and roading — were proceeding. The rate of progress in the housing contracts was not what had been hoped for, Mr Bennion added, but it was hoped to improve the completion rate to 40 a | month. In the .shop sites, the earthworks were making : progress and the contract for the servicing of the ! area was in the course of preparation.
