Wet weather throughout the weekend marred play at the Taupo Golf Cluh and cymditions were so bad on Sunday after- | noon that the scheduied event, the seventh rouud of the Winter Cup Stableford, was cancelled. It will now be played on j Sunday, June 13. The qualifying round of j the captain's prize match j Iplay event was decided on | Saturday and the 16 qualifiers were: — T. S. Leech 71 nett, J. Sayer, G. F. Fearn, K. j Clark, H. Hawkes 72, M. B. Orr, C. J. Jones 73, W. J. Shaw, H. J. Gowling, L. lO'Conner 74, R. Weir, G. L. | Currie, J. L. Wragge, P. | Potter, B. Harper 75, K. I jjacobs 76. ! - The A grade stableford j J was. won by T. S. Leech, j 1 38 points, with G. F. Fearn j runner-up with 36 points. j H. Hawkes, 36 points, I was successful in the B j grade stableford with W. i J. Shaw, 35 points, in j ! second place. The match of the day j on Saturday was a semi - ; final of the patron's trophy | 1 event, in whieh W. J. and I Mrs Shaw beat T. S. Leech and Miss J. Cooper at the 20th. ! In the second half the Shaws made excellent use of their strokes and had reduced the deficit to dormie two down at the 17th tee. Shaw won the 17th hole with a four and Mrs Shaw squared the match at the 18th hole by holing out a chip shot. The 19th hole was halved and Shaw climaxed a magnifieent recovery by sinking a chip shot from the back of the 20 th green to win the hole and the mateh. On Sunday a Taupo team took part. in the intermediate pennant series at Opotiki. The team gained six wins out of 24 individual matches.
