FIRE — FIGHTING
Sir, — An article appeared in your newspaper on May 4 in which it was inferred that the Mlnistry of Works had not now adequate fire fighting facilities at Aratiatia Village. For your information, I would like to state that this is not so. A suitable fire engine and trailer pump is still permanently based at Aratiatia and more than sufficient men to adequately man this machine are available on the works at all times. The statement that all trained firemen work at Turangi during the day is not correct. This department is quite sure that an adequate coverage of our Aratiatia village is maintained at all times. A statement to this effect in your newspaper would be appreciated. — Yours, etc.,
A. W.
GIBSON,
Project Engineer. The article referred to was a factual report of a meeting of the Taupo Urban Fire Authority. None of those who made the statements have refuted them at this stage. — The Editor.
