What plans does the NZBC have for the establishment of television transrnitting facilities to serve the central North Island region? An NZBC spokesman in Wellington said that a team of seven engineers and technicians was at present carrying out an extensive topographical survey of the region, ineluding Taupo, as a preliminary step to-' wards the selection of suitable sites on which to set up such facilities. "Viewers may rest assured that the corporation is pr-essing ahead with its plans to provide satisfactory television eoverage of the central North Island just as quickly as its present commitments in other parts of New Zealand allow," he said. "In the meantime, viewers served by those private translators which carry AKTV-2's programmes via the repeater station on Mt Te Aroha to the various j central North Island distriets . can expect improvement in reception when the 100 kw. installations on Mt Te Aroha — to replace the existing lkw equipment there - — are completed later j in the year."
