EXTRACTION OF METAL
Private discussions on the extraction of riverbed shingle in the Turangi area were held between representatives of 'Government departments, the Waikato Valley Authority and the Taupo County Council at Turangi last week. Following the discussions recommendations will be made to several Cabinet Ministers on the matter. The party will give consideration to a comprehensive survey prepared by Ministry of Works for the removal of river shingle in mass to meet metal needs on the power development. The report outlines suitable sites and river areas for this purpose.
