OBITUARY
Mr
G. S.
FRASER
The death occurred in Taupo recently of Mr Gordon Stuart Fraser, a wellknown personality in the district. Born in 1903 in Lower Hutt, Mr Fraser was educated at Wellington College. Later he started a pharmaceutical business in Patea and lived there for about 28 years. In 1950 Mr Fraser and his family moved to Taupo where he built and opened the first Taupo Drug Store. This was a welcome addition to Taupo's shopping facilities, because prior to that time prescriptions had had to be filled out of town and mailed or freighted to Taupo. "Gordon," as everyone knew him, included a milk bar and soda fountain, along the lines of the American drug store. Later the pharmaceutical side of the business was moved to Tongariro Street. After disposing of his business, Mr Fraser became licensee of the Terraces Hotel and, after leaving this position, he lived privately in Taupo. Mr Fraser was a sportsman in many fields. He was a member of the Taupo Golf Club, Taupo Bowling Club and a member of the Mayor Island Big Game Fishing Club. He was also vicepresident of the Taupo Wanderers Cricket Club. In his younger days Mr Fraser was a noted contestant in swimming and track events. Mr Fraser was a widower and is survived by a son and two daughters. The esteem in which Gordon Fraser was held was proved by the large number of people who paid their last respects at his funeral.
