Defaulting Teams Not Good For Taupo Basketball
Support for Taupo Indoor Basketball Association games last week was not good. Two women's teams defaulted on Wednesday and two men's on Thursday. Wednesday's first game saw College go down to Tauhara I. For Tauhara, S. Dance had a feast of scoring with a tally of 26 points. College's D. Woodney and M. Taute played well. The game between Lavenders and Aratiatia did not have much to recommend it as there were a total of 27 fouls recorded against the two teams. There was nothing in the game between Demons and Huka that had even a faint resemblance to basketball. Bears were too strong for Hillbillies, but one thing both these teams do is play basketball for the sake of the game with no silly pushing and shoving; something which is far too prevalent in both men's and women's basketball in Taupo at the moment. • On Thursday the game between Checkers and Comets saw Checkers down Comets by a margin of 16 . points. A personal tally
of 14 points was scored by H. Mclsaac. M. Gourly showed some of the form of previous seasons. For Comets C. Draper was again outstanding. Eagles were not the team of the previous week as their play in the first half could not have been more scrappy but in the second half they improved to beat All Stars by a margin of 21 points. Top scorers for Eagles were J. O'Brien 16 points and G. Tewano 13 points. For All Stars, R. Darlington, P. Maher and M. Dickie were always trying. There will be no games this week owing to the hall not being available.
