PERFECT CONDITIONS FOR
TAUPO GOLF
Perfect playing couditions produeed excellent scoring at the Taupo Golf Club during the weekend. Playing in a friendly four-ball on Sunday afternoon R. Iiving was round in 68, with halves of 36 and 32. One of his opponents, G. F. Barlow, returned a round of 69, 34 out and 35 home. Each player had six birdies during the round. Irving won the afternoon stableford competition wTith 43 points and Barlow was runner up with 42 points. J. L. Wragge was the winner of the first section of the Winter Cup stableford competition, decided on the best four of five cards. Seventy-fonr piayers took part in the first round of the club handicap match-play competition on Saturday afternoon. There were several close struggles with extra holes being played before a decision was reached. Five matches were drawn for the second round, which must be played before May 23, and the remaining 27
i winners were given bves to go forward to the third round. The A grade stableford event was won hy Pat Watson, 39 points, with the eonsistent H. F. Fearn runnerup, with 38 points. W. J. Shaw was in fine form to return a card of 42 points to take the B grade stableford event. Entries close on Sunday next for the Middlemore Mugs four-ball match-play event. Mrs D. Barling was the winner of the ladies' stableford competition on Sunday afternoon with a card of 38 points. She carded a nett 68.
