LUCKY ESCAPE BY CAR OCCUPANTS
tVhen the Jights failed on a ear driven by Mr Raymond James Crowe, a few minutes before midnight last Saturday, the vehicle crashed into a telephone-pole near the approach to Huka Falls, severed the toll lines to airakei, and thi*ust its radiator into a 10ft bank. Its occupants, all men escaped with a severe shaking. The party was returning to Tahorakuri land-settlement development block near rutukau, off the Main TaupoTirau highway near Oruanui. The car was badly damaged. A passing motorist gave them a lift to Taupo. The toll lines between Taupo and \\ airakei were out of commission till about midday Sunday.
