SHE ARRIVED HOME IN TIMI TO PREVENT DESTRUCTION BY FIRE
M hen a woman returned to lier liome in Tui Street at 5.30 p.m. 011 Tuesday she immediately smelt • smoke. and when she opened the kitehen door she found a large hole had heen burnt 111 the lioor, and the surrounding tiooring alight. The fire brigade was summoned. Though the brigade arrived proniptly, she was able to extinguisli the fire herself. Apparent ly, she had eloared tlie kitehen stove before she left for work that morning and jilaced tlie co'ntents into a cardboard carton on the fioor, with tlie intention of taking it outside. Iler attention was diverted to sometliing else, aird she forgof the carton. I»y the time she reached home in the evening, the liot ashes had ignited the - base of the carton, then the flooring heneath. There is a foot-square hole in ihe kitehen fioor to bear testimony to her oversiglit.
