26 YOUNGSTERS ON A SKI HOLIDAY

rOR tlie next two weeks the Taupo Ski (Tub's ehalet on Mt. Ruapehti will he taxed to eapaeity witli youugsters- 12 next week in tlie care of Mr and Mrs N. A. Poiuton, and 14 the following week m the care of Miss ,7. E. Amistroftif and Mrs (lodfrey Taylor. ' ^

Outside the ehalet the children wil be under the eontrol of Mr Noel Kerr, a competent ski instructor. The club's idea of organisiiig these family excursions exceeded even the expectations of its promoter, Mr Oillies Smith, who is the club president. There were so many applications that the chib was obli^ed to refuse a number of latecomers who sought a week's holiday on the moiintain. One prolilein which confronted Ihe organisers was whether they would be able to find ski-boots to fit exaetly, but that has been overcome; all Ihe children liave been found boois for the two weeks, which was no small job. And there are skis to jnatch, too. Plenty of Food The club fixed accommodation char.g es at £2 a week for children of members, and £3 a week for non-membcrs' children, plus ski-liire charges which are outside the club's eontrol. The cominissariat, one of the most iinportant things on a child's horizon, has not heen neglected. Fresh meat, bread and mitk from Taupo wil! be delivered at the | ehalet on Sunday and again on the following Weclnesday. Cluh members reeently liave been enjoying tlie fruits of their hard work >t recent months. Almost every weekend lately parties have gone up to tlie mountain and spent a pleasant time. Every one found the ehalet comfortable and eonvenient, and not toofar off the beaten track. Apart from having t\\o chimneys toru off during recent gales up there, the clialet has weathered the storms — and there liave been some sizeable ones lately.
