PRMARY SCHOOLS' WIN AGAINST PUTARURU IN BASKETBALL MATCH

Taupo Primary Scliools' basketball representatives did well to beat Putaruru primary representatives 14-6 in a fast game at Putaruru last Saturday. They were taken to Putaruru in private cars by Mrs G. W. Foote, and Miss R. Mtchell and Mr F. A. Tier of the Taupo school staff. Those in the team were : Forwards : Miria Wacle (Tokaanu), Dinal Lewis (Taupo), Martha Mariu (Waihi). Reserve, Racliel Te Whare (Taupo), Centres : Zelda Jones (Tauranga-Taupo) , Deidre Walker (Tokaanu), Angela Livesey (Taupo). Reserve, Ngaliuia Williams (Taupo). Defenders: Susan Pitiroi (Taupo), Xoleen Crowther (Taupo), Eileen Churcli (Tokaanu). Reserve, Doreen Biddle (Taupo). Putaruru Slow Sound, reUable defence, fast courtplay, especially in tlie centre tliird, excellent ball-handling and quick passing in the goal tliird, fo.r whieh Miria Wade was almost entirely responsible, plus the unerring accuracy of Martha Mariu's shooting, clinched the game in Taupo's favour. Putaruru sliovyed superiority in footvvork, court semse and positional play, but as a team was a shade too slow for the pare set by Taupo. The second game was lost to a Putaruru Intermediato team, 15-13. Though s'ower tlian the previous game, the standard of play was fairly good, Intermediate's shooting being particularly accurate, even from tlie goal circle. Generous Hosts Though in both inatches Taupo played essentially as a team, special credit must go to Noleen Crowther, Deidre Walker, Angela Livesey, and to Miria Wade congratulations 011 lier display of outstanding basketball. Delicious luncli and afternoon tea were provided after the games, giving a toucli to the hospitable atmosphere whieh has always prevailed at Putaruru. O11 behalf of the Taupo team, Ngaiana Williams expressed tlianks for the excellent games and the food, and the hope that "we shall see you again."
